My Expedition Trip To Gunung Mulu National Park (Day 6)

We woke up late the next morning and accepted the tragic fact that the night trekking isn't a dream. After a quick breakfast, we continued the 8.8km Kuala Berar trail to go back to Benarat Lodge. Our new schedule today is Camp 5 --> Benarat Lodge --> Miri --> Kuala Lumpur --> School --> Home...

We reached Benarat Lodge at 1.30pm, had our lunch and bathed before rushing to Mulu Airport. Our flight is at 3.00pm back to Miri, so everything is so rushing! We managed to reach there early and took some pictures with who ever non-domestic tourist we met there. A flick of an eye, and there we were, back to Miri.

We spent our time visiting Miri Oil Museum. Well we never really go into the muzium, just hanging around outside having silly photo sessions. There stood a life size replica of the actual Borneo 1st oil pumper named The Grand Old Lady and amazingly, it stood on the very place too! We guys had a funny idea taking the photos of the " 'Same' Gang" before we pulled off from there.

Our trip organizer (I forgotten his name) brought us to try some local foods there. So we chose to go to have a Ais Batu Campur a.k.a ABC a.k.a Ais Kacang (Malaysian shaved ice with sweet red beans, corns, syrup and almost anything else). After that we went to souvenir shop to buy something memorable. Although it was just a small shop, we spent quite some time in there because everything there were so pretty! Everything there are hand made and you can see those details perfections. Can't imagine how much time the workers need to make one simple necklace. We had our best meal as our last day's dinner in a restaurant. The food served are quite expensive, i guess. We had a great big toast for our great achievement that scrapped a deep mark in our school's achievement history at the end of the meal.

We got back to Miri Airport to get ready for our flight back to Kuala Lumpur after dinner. Mr. Nagaya gave some touching speech before we boarded. He congratulated everyone of us for our victory and that we had created 3 new records in the Gunung Mulu National Park history! We boarded our flight and just fell asleep like a pig in it as soon as we sat down. My friend jerked me from my sleep after some time. As I opened my eyes, wow, we've landed on LCCT again! Amazing! The last thing I remembered was before the plane even took its flight! Guess I did slept like a pig. We reached back school save and sound with a brand new personality and matured virtue at 1.00am, And that marks the perfect full stop to the history of SMJK Yu Hua 2010 Expedition to Mulu Caves and The Pinnacles.

Through this expedition, I've learned that nothing is impossible if you have the will. Plus, I've become more appreciate to the nature realizing that it is humankind's most basic wealth, not money. I will not forget what Richard told me since the very first day of this expedition - To achieve is hard, but once you've achieved it, it'll always be in your heart.

My Expedition Trip To Gunung Mulu National Park (Day 5)

We woke up a bit late today, with aches and soars flinches in every inch of our limbs. Luckily we've finished packing the night before, or we'll be busy in and out. Still, we've buckled up to continue our last trek - The Head-Hunters Trail.

The Head-Hunters Trail is a 11.3km trail. The journey starts from the "mysterious" suspension bridge I mentioned in the last part of the 3rd Day post and ends at Terikan River bank. Tourists then have to take a 3 hour longtail boat ride to Bala Losong Longhouse to proceed their activities there.

The 1st few kilometers of the trail was lead by pebbles path so that tourists wouldn't get lost. We were asked to be very silent and respect every native rules in the jungle as it is belief that this trail was haunted by the spirits in it. We were so silence that we can hear some indistinct animals such as the sound of the flapping wings of hornbills. We've came to the mid of the trail that we have to cross the scariest suspended bridge of all - Monkey Bridge (a type of suspension bridge that made out of ropes only).

After crossing the Monkey Bridge, we rested in a foyer known as Lubang Cina (Chinese Cave). Lubang Cina gets its name way back about 3 centuries ago. When Chinese traders stops here to trade, unfortunately they get involved in the most fierce Headhunters war. They ran into a cave to hide, carrying their boats and all valuables such as china vases. But in all a sudden, rains start pouring non stop until it flooded the cave entirely. Non had survived then, and since they were all innocents, it is said that the traders' spirits are still wandering around. I actually find it a bit creepy resting at the foyer there.

We continued the rest of the trail as quick as possible as we were off schedule. We have finished this exhausting trail before the longtail boats arrived. We hung around Terikan River bank to wait for the arrival of the boats. Some of us chatted in the foyer and others had a dip in the icy river.

3 hours had passed but we've waited for nothing. There was no connection in the middle of the jungle, not even the tour guide's walkie-talkie! In the end the adults made up a stunning decision that we have to return to our base camp, Camp5! This is where our nightmare starts. It is time for us to pack up our naive behaviours and mentally prepare as we knew that we'll spend some longest 5 hours of our lives trailing back in total darkness, which had never happened before since this place was opened for visitors.

Our priority target was to cross over the Monkey Bridge before dark. We've formed into a line and moved as fast as we can. We managed to cross the bridge just a twitch second before it turned totally dark in the jungle. It was then that the Nature entirely came alive. This is where the real expedition begins. With only the little light source from out torch lights, we have to finish the rest of 6km trail. Owls start hooting, apes start chipper-chapering, bats flocking around, cicadas start screeching, but the worse is yet to be awaited. 30 minutes after thee dark, rains start pouring down heavily without mercy. Some of us were terrified and petrified with this unprepared challenge. In this situation, only the strongest team with strongest spirit could get through it and proudly, we're those!

We managed to reach back Camp5 before midnight but everyone was tired. Despite that we've only took breakfast and some snacks throughout the whole day, still we've walked a total of 22.6km! I'm totally amazed even I was one of the team. We've all dipped in the now freezing river without concerning the coldness of it. It was the feeling of angel approach when diner served, even it is only an instant noodle meal. But now we face 3 major problems - we have to rewalk the 8.8km Kuala Berar trail back the next day, we'll not be able to take the flight in the morning and we were all damn exhausted! We checked-in to the dormitories for the night and fell asleep before we could even think of the aches and cramps that we had. It was one of the best sleep that I've ever had!

My Expedition Trip To Gunung Mulu National Park (Day 4)

I opened my eyes, searching for my spects. I rubbed my eyes feeling odd, I was alone in the dorm. I look at my watch, oh NO! I'm 10 minutes late for breakfast! What a funny kick-start of the day. Today is the day, where all the trainings paid up, just to challenge this hike to witness the triumph of Mother Nature - The Pinnacles. The Pinnacle Summit Trek begins at 6.30am, covering a 2400m steep and slippery trek elevating from 60 degrees to 90 degrees and ends with a rocky viewpoint at 1750m above sea level; 2400m trek distance from Camp5.

Along the trek is a shrub forest and mossy moist path. The mountain is 90% limestone resulting a slippery trek caused by the humidity as we climbed. The first 2000m is the hardest part. We have to stretch our legs up high and wide across to follow friends in front us. Although we're gasping for air while some urging and even craving for it, we helped each other up, hand-in-hand, hearts-to-hearts, revealing the true leadership in yonder soul, twas, "no one ever left behind or to be forgotten".

My asthma kicks in as soon as I reached the 400m checkpoint. I was really spongy that time. Its wrong to not to inform my teachers that I have minor asthma, but this is a once in a life time experience!! I just took the risks but who knows it really happened up there. Thanks to encouragements from my buddies, I've made up to the 2000m checkpoint, palely. But I was the 5th to reach that checkpoint!!

The following 400m is the most exiting experience. It was like flashing back into childhood where we have a board on the floor with some pawns and a dice to play with, the board was printed with number blocks and snakes and ladders. Nostalgic... Well, I'm serious here, it's as though as we're playing Snakes and Ladders, but a real life one! This is the part that the elevation comes to an extreme 90 degrees. We have to stretch more here, like Spiderman actually, and the stones are spiky and slippery!

Another hour hiking and we've finally reached the viewpoint. It has been a rough hike but as we stepped into the viewpoint, every pain in our limbs "poofs" away and all we can concentrate is indulging in the breathtaking scenery of The Pinnacles.

The Pinnacles is a series of razor-sharp limestone piercing out from beneath the slopes of Gunung Api (Api Mountain) 45m up high, trying to escape the boundaries below it. This magnificent view of Nature hides a story behind it - as earth crust moves colliding each other, tensions and pressures built up. Just like human, the weaker ones, or the softer layer in this case, couldn't withstand these pressures. In result, they snapped into 2, piercing out from the crust, triumphantly standing out shining from the others. The razor-sharp peaks of the Pinnacles showed us the toughest time they've been through some million years ago. Picturing it into real life, while you faces hard times, if we just hold a breath and walk away, who knows you'll be the one who shines up to the world while the others still competing within each others.

After a whole lot of photo sessions, we descend the mountain. Just as we've been told, descending is much harder and takes longer time than ascending. I reached back at Camp5 around 5pm, being the 4th to finish the hike. A dip in the breezing river with a hot cup of instant noodle, and I called that a day with a victory in my heart.

My Expedition Trip To Gunung Mulu National Park (Day 3)

I opened my eyes with a smile clinging on my cheek the nest morning. We took a longtail boat ride up stream of Sungai Pala after breakfast.

We stopped to visit Batu Bungan Penen Settlement to see the life of the locals and handicraft made by the Penan tribes.

We continued up stream and reached the entrance of the Wind Cave. Wind Cave was named after the bizarre cooling breeze caused by different air pressures in and out of the cave passage and also the phenomenon of cooler air being blown into the cave from a higher altitude. The stalactites and stalagmites in here are phenomenal as they temp to bend the law of physics defying gravity. They are some spiky and some bended ones. They too, were caused by the wind blown in and out from the caves while it is forming over the centuries. The end of the Wind Cave is known as The Chinese Emperor's Chamber where your imagination has to run wild to enjoy the formations in it.

A little walk descending from Wind Cave led us to the Clearwater Pavilion. We had our tea break here before proceeding to the next cave.

We walked 400 plus flights of stairs up and down from the Pavilion to reach the entrance of the Clearwater Cave with Lady's Cave side by side.

Clearwater Cave is the longest cave system in Southeast Asia with swift running river flowing inside it, beside our trail. It was told that one can look younger if washes his/hers face 3 times with the water in this cave. There is a bridge built inside it to cross over the river. It took the engineers 2 times failure to make the bridge built securely. Rumour says that it is because that the structure had disturbed the souls inside the cave.

Lady's Cave was simply named after a stalagmite which its shadow looks like a lady in the entrance of the cave. There was a hole in the middle of the cave and the view from inside is just as breathtaking as The Garden of Eden!

We had our packed lunch at Clearwater Pavilion and continued up stream to Kuala Berar at Long Litut to proceed to our next shelter. The 8.8 walk from Kuala Berar to Melinau Camp (a.k.a Camp 5) was easy-peasy. The trek is into a mellow rainforest along Litut River. Through we have to cross 2 suspension bridges along the trail which considered the hardest part of the trail. To kill boreness, we sang and chatted but Richard warned us not to as this will disturb the nature itself. Despite the 'leaches-part" we've brought, we all find it pleasant and soothing.

The moment the entrance of Camp 5 flashed into out sight, all I can think was, "woah, we've made it!", but some of the girls are over reacted and raced for the last 100m like a bunch of hungry apes competing for a banana in front of them. tossing the 7kg burden and just lie on the pathway like a dead fish. Once again, we've been warned because we are not the only visitors staying here.

So, Camp 5, we've been told not to expect much from it, just a simple base provided with simple dormitories, a kitchen, 3 bathrooms and a so-so river but, it was a paradise! I mean, the kitchen is larger than the living room back at home and installed with stoves and gasses, the washing room is piped, well no one told us about the splendid dining area we can hang around, and don't mention about the cleanliness, it is certainly the most hygiene camp I've ever been!! It's beyond paradise! We've dipped into the icy cooling river after some rest while teachers chatted over the foyer at the bank.There's a huge suspension bridge leading into a deeper forest but no one knows where it'll bring us go to (refer to the 5th Day post).

Night falls in really fast. Rain kept pouring like there's a leak in the sky. If the angels above have to pay for these water-leak (rain) like we payed for out pipes, I bet they'll be broke in no time! After the briefing about the hike next day, we all tugged-in before 10.30pm and snored like piglets.

My Expedition Trip To Gunung Mulu National Park (Day 2)

Morning comes in a flick of an eye. It was that morning that only I can take my time enjoy the nice and soothing design of Benarat Lodge. The place is planted with flowers along the walking path. 3 longhouse-chalet forming a "U" shape leading to the dining house at the further center of the chalets.

After a warming breakfast, we took a ride to the National Park Headquarter of Mulu. We have to cross a suspension bridge to the information center and there is where we start our 2nd day trip.

We went for a relaxing Plants of Life and Plants for Life walk. It is a walk into forest where we learned how the nature works and how to make use of the nature provided us.

We brought our pack lunch there and proceed walk to admire the Deer Cave and Lang's Cave. It was a 3.3km walk into the entrance gate of the 2 caves. Before entering Deer Cave, Richard briefed us about how caves were formed. The oldest of Mulu's caves started forming about 5 million years ago when sideways earth movements resulted in the formation of both limestone and sandstone mountains, lying side by side with the help of heavy rain and rivers action carving out the vast subterranean system that exists today.

Deer Cave is known as the world's largest cave passage. Imagine parking 40 units Boeing 747 (the very size of Air Force One) in it, that's how big it is!

another prophecy of Mother Nature?

We have come to the end of this cave being rewarded by the most spectacular view where you finally meets sunlight and the greens in the dark cave. The cave system had collapsed some thousand years ago leaving a big opening in it. The ground is soon fertilized with guano (bats faeces) and greens start growing on it. It is certainly a mesmerizing view of forest inside-out which given that name of The Garden of Eden (story tells that Adam and Eves met in a heaven-like place named The Garden of Eden).

Lang's Cave is just beside Deer Cave. Lang's Cave was named after an mighty explorer of the Royal Expedition in 1997. The very rope that Lang used is still in this cave and mighty Lang is one of the ranger, tour guide and researcher of Mulu National Park.

The cave has clearly shown the formation of stalactites and stalagmites despite the small and narrow size of it. It took about 10 years to form a 1cm of these natural mineral-rocks. Just imagine how much is needed to form the cave scenery we have today!! Absolutely phenomenal!

As dusk ascends, bats started to flock out to search for food. We ran as fast as we could to get a nice view of the exodus of bats out the caves. They first come out from the caves with a long spiraling formation with approximately 5 millions of bats. They then start to form into a more stable formation either in triangular or lined. They come to a point where they spread out descending into the forest to hunt for food.

guess how many bats are there? clue: at least 5 million!!

Bats are known as the Dark Knights due to their ability of flying up to 78km in a single night without hitting into any obstacles beyond them. They use high pitch sound waves (supersonic) to track down their preys and also to estimate any obstacles in front. They estimate it by listening to the echoes reflected back to them. Bats are the only creature known to human in this world that uses this unique ability to live. The walk back to information center was refreshing as rain kept pouring down on us. We had our bags packed after dinner to proceed our trip the next day.

It was a fresh midnight of 19th March 2010. We departed from school to LCCT for our flight check-in. It was a double flight from LCCT to Miri Airport and from Miri Airport to Mulu Airport.

Mulu Airport is a well tradition-preserved place to be. Mostly everything there are hand crafted, including the eaves and entrance gate!

There we meet our tour guides for the whole expedition trip, Richardson and Rizal. They transfer us to our first two nights accommodation, Benarat Lodge located along Sungai Pala (Pala River). After we've settled the luggage, we've changed into shorts and hiked Sungai Pala Hill for a sunset view of the mountains and terrains we will conquer in the next 5 days.

it's just an easy 15 minutes walk from Benarat Lodge to the hill top...

did I mentioned that we are also a bunch of silly monkeys? Haha!!

The walk back to Benarat Lodge was a race against the rain. Richard gave us some preparation briefing after dinner that night and we're asked to be in bed by 11pm because the power system there will be cut off at 12am sharp.

My Expedition Trip to Gunung Mulu National Park (Before)

Hi everyone!! This is my essay competition (exact) between 22 selected students from my school.. Its about my expedition trip to Gunung Mulu National Park in March 2010. So, do hope you'll enjoy what I encountered and saw there, with some help from photos we've taken there.. There will be more posts coming up as it was a 6 days trip.. Home to the world's largest cave passage, the world's largest natural chamber and the largest cave in Southeast Asia, with amazingly total of 79 cave systems gobbling up a vast area of 544 km square, sits the world-known Gunung Mulu National Park of Sarawak, Malaysia. Gunung Mulu National Park is the "jewel in the crown" of Sarawak and a highlight of Borneo tours. It is also home for thousands species of floras and faunas supporting the perfect balance of ecosystem. Mulu was a paradise-untouched-by-men until 1997 where a Royal Expedition came in and turns it into the harmony point where children of Adam and Eves meets the masterpiece of Mother Nature.

I've participated an expedition to Mulu Caverns and The Pinnacles organized by my school, SMJK Yu Hua, Kajang, Selangor from 19th to 24th March 2010 (6 days 5 nights). The team was formed by 22 students (17 and 18 years old) - 20 uniform group leaders and 2 club presidents, and 4 honourly saluted teachers. It took us nearly 5 months of plannings, fund raising and physical plus mental preparations to succeed this!!

The Day My Mom Called Me Into Her Room

"Hey, come in here Joshua. I have things to show you." My mom called upon me one afternoon.

Mom is a sweet lady. She is all what a child needs. She cooks, does laundries, washes, gardening and cleaning without complains. I stepped into her room and saw a big mess! How can a forty plus lady make so much mess in her room?!

"I was cleaning the room and there are things I can't reach. There, up there my boy."

I took a box full of old photo albums from the cupboard and it was covered by layers of dust as though it has not been touched for centuries. I helped her to clean the albums with a damp cloth and all of a sudden, a photo of me dropped out from the album. I was five back then and I am riding my bicycle in the park.

It was a clear sunny evening as mom took me for a walk with my family at the park nearby. The flowers are blooming nice and sweet, the wind is whispering into my ears and the water ripples on the lake are chasing each other onto the banks. I was riding my favourite bicycle and met a few neighbour kids there. We raced together imagining that we are some sort of cool bikers.

"Joshua, it's time to go now", my mom called upon me everytime.

"Five more minutes, mom", and I ride pass her, everytime.

Mom knows my heart so well, she knows ever kids' heart so well. She understands that I do not get out to the park every day and if I asked for another five minutes, she is still fine with me. What a calm personality!

My gosh you wouldn't imagined how thick the dust is! As I went to wash the cloth, I stepped on another photo. This time it is me and mom in the kitchen and I was covered in choco flour and batters all around my face. Mom was dressed elegantly in an amethyst coloured night gown. It was my parents' fifteenth anniversary back then I was twelve.

That night as mom and dad drove out for a romantic evening date, I was so boring and wanted to make a surprise for them when they get home. I went through my mom's cook book and saw her favourite cake - Chocolate Fantasy. I worked the whole night and made a lot of mess in the kitchen and was covered in choco as what it reflected from the photo.

Finally, I baked out this so called cake which wasn't looks alike what it was shone in the cook book. Mine was so moist that the top layer couldn't just stay still wiggling like a jelly. Well, it was my first time though. As the indistinct car engine roars louder and louder, I saw the light of the car flashing into the living room. I quickly turn off the lights. they thought I was asleep and sneaked in the living room like a burglar. Just as they came into the corner of the kitchen, I turned on the lights and shouted "SURPRISE!!".

"What do you think you are doing? Making these much mess in the kitchen and what is that burning smell?" Dad was furious.

"Honey, look on the table," said mom sweetly, melting my buttery heart.

"Yeah, I can see it! It's a total mess! Let me get this clear boy," my dad pointed his fingers onto my face. "I am tired now and I can't stay up to make sure you to clean this, but we will do it first thing in the morning!" Dad slammed the table and gone.

I was sobbing and hesitating, "did he even saw the cake I baked for them?"

"Don't feel bad. Come, let's taste this delicious looking cake together." Mom is always so nice to me.

After helping mom to clean her room, I went out for ride on my motorcycle. On the way, I saw a little girl and she was crying, so sadly that I stopped and offered my sympathy.

"Hey there, are you alright? You want a ride home?" I asked her.

"I wanted to buy a stick of rose to momma, but I have not enough money," she replied without looking at me, continuing sobbing.

"What do you say if I give you enough money to buy it for her?" I offered. She nodded and smiled at me. That slightest smile, was unforgettable. It symbolizes a strip of hope and the moment of wish come true in the hardest moment. I rode her to a florist and she picked a white rose.

"Can you bring me to my momma?" She asked politely. She directed me along the road.

"Here we are, you can stop me here now. Thanks very much, stranger!" She shouted happily bringing traces of tears under her silky lashes. But, no, it wasn't right at all! We stopped outside a CEMETERY! That moment I saw her kneeling down facing the fresh dug soil, mumbling some words with tears all over her face, I felt the bitterness in her that I never felt before.

On my way home, I dropped by at the florist and bought a bouquet of roses. I reached home and presented this to mom the first thing I stepped into the hall.

"Oh how lovely these roses are! Thanks boy, I love them so much," mom thanked me with a warm smile on her face.

As she placed the bouquet carefully in a vase on the kitchen table, I heard a little cough from her. The moment she cough is the moment I finally realized how lucky I am to have a mom like her. Mom is aging as I grew.

I rushed up into my room and cried heartily, finally knowing that how much she loved me. When I was five, she gave me enough time to ride my bicycle in the park just to spend enough time enjoying the quality moment we have together while she still can; when I was twelve, she ate the chocolate cake so happily even it is burnt, just to mend my aching heart. Every piece of memory came and linked together as I flashed back the time we spent together. The tears of grateful and joy flows down my cheek uncontrollably that evening.

Today, I understand how great is the love of a mother to her children, and I realized that how much my mom loved me. Everything changed so dramatically since then, and it all started the day my mom called me into her room.

An Extraordinary Post!!!

Hmm... This will be my extraordinary post simply because that it is NOT a poem!!! In fact, I'll tell you a bit of lesson I learned today...

I was lucky, very lucky today as I'm so close to say byebye forever... I thought i was going to DIE at the exact day of my 17th birthday!! So, here comes my lesson learned today:

Never sigh in your life, even though it is a tough situation. Just endured it and who knows the clear blue sky is just a step away! Live in happiness and full of courteous every day for you'll never know when will you be saying goodbye to your love ones, and even if the time does comes, at least you'll not regret about your life...

Just to end this unusual post, I would like to say: Thanks to everyone for supporting me and I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!

Super Powers

"If I had super powers, I would kidnap the Ginnie and force him to grant my every wish!" Joshua told his elder brother, Edwin while he was just five. "Well, if I had super powers, I would do everything, yes Joshua, everything to make you happy!", assured Edwin. It was the most memorable day for Edwin and Joshua, for they are both in black suit and white rose clipped onto their chest pockets, looking smart, sending their last regard to their parents. Just two days before this, Emma and Charlie was happily on their way attending a friend's wedding and who knows fate spoken in such sudden, and they are now gone, leaving Edwin to look after his little brother, forever.

Edwin is a great brother every sisters want and every girls wish to own him. His smart, intelligent, dedicated, caring, kind and most importantly, loving. He is an early matured in thinking boy comparing to his buddies. He tends to know every consequences that might happen for what he chose. Lucky for Joshua, God bestowed this priceless brother to him. Contrary, Joshua is a childish boy, even now that he is already thirteen. He always do things for his own benefits and never think about others. He is greedy and timid, and an easily loose canon he always be. But he takes every talent of himself for every granted and dreams big, much bigger than Edwin ever thought of - to become a well-known artist in the world.

Carrie, Emma's sister is the only family Edwin and Joshua have left. She has been supported the brothers' life for years since the death of her dear sister. She always holding out her hands rather than pointing a finger on them. She is irrevocably an angel came out from nowhere and "poofs" into the brothers' life.

It was Christmas Eve. As usual, Joshua will join his brother and aunt for the dinner on this sanctity night. A bowl of Aunt Carrie's Potato Salad is prepared so lovingly. It brings back every bits of good memories for them by just putting a piece of it in your mouth, let it melts warmly like butter on your tongue. The turkey is resting on the table, roasted so perfectly you can even feel the crisp of the caramelized skin by just looking at it. Apple pie is freshly baked and served on the table for three, leaving the aromatic and lusty scent of apple in the ambiance of the holly night. What a night! After their dinner, Carrie brought the brothers to church for blessing. There was barely even a shadow on the road. The happy family were singing songs on their way,

"Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle all the -" HONK! WHAM! BANG!!

Came from nowhere, a huge truck loaded with logs crashed into the little cooper so violently. There was nothing to be felt, except their own hasty breath and the cold in the air. Before Joshua could know, Aunt Carrie has left him and Edwin forever. It was a total deja vu, only now that they are both experiencing the incident happened eight years ago.

"If I had super powers, I would ask the Ginnie to make Aunt Carrie live again," Joshua told Edwin in Aunt Carrie's funeral. "Well if I had super powers, I'll just make sure that no one will suffer our pain in this world, and do everything to make you happy," cried Edwin, heartily.

Edwin is now a twenty-five young man and is already mastering the field of psychology treatment. He always wants to help others who lost their loved ones like he did to put down the present and walk out a future. Joshua, has developed much in his creativity, brother-ship, humanity and most of his virtue. He is in his sweet sixteen and studying in a well-known art school, majoring in sculpture designing. The brothers have suffered four hard years with not much cash flow after Aunt Carrie's death.

One evening after the stressful studies of everyday, Edwin is ready to head home to relax. He only realized that his wallet has left in the desk of his classroom when he got to the bus stop. Just at this moment, he met a friend, Jeffery who is born into a wealthy family and have everything Edwin doesn't have. He then gave Edwin a ride home in his new Porsche. As soon as Edwin reached home, he called Joshua out from the house. He pointed at Jeffery's car and whispered to Joshua, "hey, see that Porsche? Isn't it grand! One day, I'll buy this car for you." All Joshua could reply was, "yeah, right..."

Life is getting better for the next three years. Edwin got a great job giving lectures around the country and he bought himself a Porsche! Joshua has entered college studying advance sculpturing with full scholarship.

It is Joshua's first sculpturing competition tomorrow and all he ever wished is to have his brother being there in the studio supporting him and giving him every inspiration on it. But Edwin is 200 miles away and no way he is coming back for this important event. "So much for 'do everything to make you happy'... I hate you Edwin!!" And Joshua threw the phone on the floor with every anger and disappointment.

It is the big day. Joshua reached the National Youth Art Studio at 9.00 a.m. It was a crowd there and everyone seems to be professional and well prepared. Competition starts at 10.00 a.m. sharp, and every participants were given the title "Love". Tension rises. Joshua has not got a piece of idea what to do. Starring at the big marble block, he is totally numb.

Ring..Ring...Ring... "What now Edwin?! I'm in the middle of competition and losing. No thanks to you! Edwin? Hey, Answer me! Edwin?"

"Hey there my sculpture boy... Well, I canceled the last lecture to come over... I really did... I tried... Sorry..." Comes an unrecognized sound of Edwin from the phone. It sounded much more like growling of pain rather than excited.

"What do you meant 'sorry'? Hey, you alright? Edwin? Edwin! Hey, answer me!! You there?"

Five minutes after the call, two policemen came into the studio, looking for Joshua. He has been told that Edwin couldn't make it in a road accident just outside the studio.

Tears splash everywhere flooding the studio. No one knows the pain like Joshua does in this world, for losing every family in a flick of eye. He is condemned, crushed, soulless... Just at that moment, he got what he wished for, the inspiration from his late brother. He carved out the Grand Prize sculpture around the studio - a live size Edwin, and now everyone in this world would know the bitter in the yonder heart of a young sculptor.

Walking up the stage, where thousand pairs of eyes watching at you recording the sour memorable moment, I was asked to give a speech on my sculpture. Every words choked my breath and I cried silently for a moment. Thinking of what I have been through, I finally spoke, "Edwin, guess what? I have SUPER POWERS! But it seems like Ginnie can't grant me every wish though...Thanks for accompanying me for these eighteen years..."

Yes, I was really a self-centered person, and I changed. I know what are my super powers now - to cherish and love everyone around me. I succeeded!

Tonight's Memory, Tomorrow's Sunrise

Dear Diary,

It has been a year. One eyear that had seemed to stretch on forever. This day, a year ago, is burned vividly in my mind as if it was yesterday. It is a memory I can do better to give up. Yet, a memory etched foerever in my mind like words on stone. -

Here, I stopped writting, dropping my pen to keep the tears that treatened to overflow at bay. I looked out of the bedside window. The stars that I had grown to know so well over the past year shone brightly tonight. Their light was the only comfort I had on these nights I barely slept. Now, I gazed at them, looking with unseeing eyes. They were all I had tonight - the stars and the memories of the many times I had wished upon them.

Yet, with all those wishes, I had asked for only one thing. To see her again.

But I will not see her again.

I do not see her now. There is only the deafening silence of the night and the emptiness. For me, it will always be this way.

Loneliness pressed in on me from all sides. In the pale light of the moon, I felt myself succumb once again to the flow of memories that flooded back in torrents. Im my mind's eye, again, I saw the malevolent glint of the silver knife and the blood that splattered everywhere. Her blood.

I let a single tear roll down the side of my cheek and splash like a crystal on my palm. I looked down upon it. A single tear that seemed to represent everything that I had gone through in the past year. My mind slipped, and for a moment, I thought I could see the night that it happened reflected in its depths.

It had been one of those magical nights. We were strolling by the beach, hand in hand, blissfully unaware of the tragedy that was about to unfold hours later. The waves lapped at the shore. The sand was silky under our feet. All was well.

I hold her hand tightly as we walked the length of the beach. Thee cool night air, the smell of her shampoo in her hair and the feel of her smooth fingers interlocked in mine, they all leapt out at me in the perfect peacefulness of the night. I held her close to me as we walked and was content. Words were unnecessary between us. The silence said all there was to say. And for hours, we sat on the velvety sand, her head on my shoulder and eyes closed, listening to nothing but the constant crashing of wave after wave againts the shore.

What happened later that night was hazy in my mind, as if my subconsciousness was trying to shield me againts a terrible memory. I had offered to walk her home. I remembered the revving of a motorbike close by and a man wearing a tinted helmet leaping off the bike to thrust a long flick knife into her chest. Then, an arm snatching her handbag forcefully and finally making off on the bike again.

The whole series of events took no more than twenty seconds. Now Rachael lay limp in my arm, blood spilling and spreading in a circle, from a gaping wound directly over her heart. A cold numbness took me. It did not take a genius to see that she would not live to see tomorrow's sunrise. My eyes were pleading as I shook her. "Stay with me," I beseeched silently. My body racked with desperation. But it was not to be.

I fell to my knees. The unyielding pavement was cold againts my body. The pearly moonlight reflected off Rachael's face, making her face seem to glow palely. Her head was rested on my heaving chest and her breathing was shallow. I watched with helplessness as her life ebbed slowly but surely from her. That moment, I hated mysef.

She tried to reassure me with her eyes. Eyes that spoke of a fear she tried to hide. "Be brave," she breathed. "I'll miss you too". Her voice was whisper now, and it seemed every syllable costed her great pain.

Yet, she smiled weakly, not letting it on. She knew her pain scared me. In that moment, it seemed I had never truly appreciated how very beautiful she was.

Now, there was nothing I could do except affer her the only comfort I could. I held her closely and pressed my lips againts her forehead. An hour passed but I did not move, did not feel the dark liquid that seeped through her blouse and poded on the ground.

I senced Rachael died. I saw the life that sparked out behind her eyes and felt the woman I loved with my life, shudder and go limp. And I hugged her all the tighter because of it.

No one heard the anguished scream that pierced the night. No one saw the cold tears fall freely from my cheek onto hers. I cried my heart out that night. But no one heard.

- What can I do, diary? The warmth of her body againts mine and her beautiful face remains as nothing but memories. Memories that do nothing but break my heart.

Now I stood up and leaned againts the window frame. "I love you, Rachael," I tried to whisper, "I really do". But the words seemed to choked me.

I lay down on my bed and cried myself to sleep.

Well, there's a story behind every individual... Some are bitter as gall, others are sweet as sugar; some makes you cry of happiness, others makes you cry of sadnness... This is my story before I met my first ever true friend, and it's rather nostalgic for me... Get a good time and have a flash back yourself, how is your first friendship made up? Be thankful to them, sacrifice necessity for them, love them... For they are your foundation of today, your concrete of tomorrow, and your pillars of future...

God created a Donkey, a Dog, a Monkey and a Man...

He told Donkey: You'll be a donkey... You'll be carrying burdens on your back un-tiringly, from sunrise to sunset... You'll have no intelligence and you'll live for 50 years...

Donkey replied: I'll be a donkey, but 50 years is too much! I'll take only 20 years...

God granted his wish...

He told Dog: You'll be a dog... You'll be man's best friend, you'll guard his door day and night... You'll eat every scraps he gives you and you'll live for 30 years...

Dog replied: I'll be a dog, but 30 years is too much! I'll take only 15 years...

God granted his wish...

He told Monkey: You'll be a monkey... You'll swing from branches to branches and be amusing at any time... You'll do tricks and you'll live for 20 years...

Monkey replied: I'll be a monkey, but 20 years is too much! I'll take only 10 years...

God granted his wish...

He told Man: You'll be a man, the only rational creature living on the face of Earth... You'll use your intelligence to become master of all animals... You'll dominate the world and you'll live for 20 years...

Man replied: Sir, I'll be a man but 20 years is not enough! I'll take the 30 years Donkey refused, the 15 years Dog did not want, and the 10 years Monkey refused...

God granted his wish...

And since, man lived 20 years as a man...

30 years as donkey, working hard day in day out, carrying burdens over his back...

Then when his kids are grown, he lived 15 years as dog, taking care of the house, eating whatever is given to him...

When he is old one day, he lived 10 years as monkey, visiting house from house of his kids, doing the same old tricks to amuse thier grandchildren...

Argh, it's torturing!!
What's over there?
Why am I suffering?

I can't see a thing..
I don't wanna go into a coma!
But why does it hurt, like jinxed?

I vowed, back to real world now, I realized..

Theme: A girl standing on the beach with herself in dusk, listening the waves,

feeling the breeze and watching the sun set..

*Please be very serious while imagining it..

1st...

Imagine yourself:

Standing alone on the shore,

Of the deep violet lusty dusk;

Listening to the enchanting symphony,

Of waves flapping on the red-dyed sand;

Feeling the coolest breeze,

Blowing gracefully between your fairest hair,

Into your innocent heart and soul;

And the charming sun waving goodbye,

With his slightest strip of smile,

Down to the horizon of shaded ocean..

2nd...

Imagine yourself:

Standing lonely on the shore,

Of the grimly shadowed dusk;

Listening to the saddest moans and cries,

Of waves flapping on the bloody sand;

Feeling the coldest breeze,

Whispering words between your brunette hair,

Into your petrified heart and soul;

And the deepest sun waving goodbye,

With his gloomiest strip of smile,

Down into the last hope of dark cursed ocean..

Both stories shared the same theme of story, but described in a very different way, giving you a very different feeling.. The 1st is a story full of hope, wishing the next day will be better; The 2nd is a story with no hope, only wishing the day will go away and never come back.. The message i wanna send is:

Everything you confront has 2 choices, whether to take it as positive or negative.. Since the choices are in your hand, why don't you take it positively? Try to solve it by time, hoping every tomorrows will be better than every yesterdays..
